Quick answer
For most open-plan living rooms, choose one statement light over the seating area, sized to the seating zone and not the whole room. Our all-round pick is the Horizontal Crystals Chandelier (100 cm, ₦380,000). If you want to spend less, the Hangerline Chandelier is ₦260,000 and keeps sightlines clear. For a tall or showpiece space, the Lumiere 3 Step Light is ₦750,000.
The eight lights below cost between ₦260,000 and ₦750,000, against a median of ₦375,000 across our 156 active chandeliers (17 October 2026). As a size guide, add the length and width of your seating zone in metres and multiply by about 8.3 to get a diameter in centimetres. Hang the bottom of the fitting 76 to 91 cm above a table or seating surface, and 183 to 213 cm above the floor where people walk beneath it.

How we chose these eight
LAGE Lightings (also known as Lights Architect) sells every light in this guide, so we have an interest and you should know it. These are editorial picks, not a ranking by sales, and we do not publish sales figures. We chose from our active chandelier collection listings as at 17 October 2026 to cover a range of shapes (line, horizontal, cluster, cascade, geometric), a range of prices, and fittings that look good from several angles, because an open-plan ceiling light is seen from the sofa, the kitchen and the entrance. All specifications and prices are taken from the product listings, using the lowest variant price. Where a listing does not state something, such as drop length or wattage, we say so instead of guessing.
We have not tested these fittings in your room, and we could not find lumen figures on the listings, so we do not compare brightness. Sizing and height rules come from the design guides we link beside each one: Hammerton and Mod Lighting. We could not find a verified Nigerian standard for ceiling height or a trusted installation labour rate, so we quote neither.

The 8 best statement lights, one by one
They are listed from the lowest price to the highest. Each states what the listing says, why it suits an open plan, and what to check before you pay.
1. Hangerline Chandelier: best on a tighter budget
₦260,000 | Size: 100 cm | Light: 6 integrated LEDs | Finish: Iron
A slim, minimalist line fitting in iron with six integrated LEDs, listed at 100 cm. Because it is mostly empty space, it does not block sightlines between the kitchen, dining and lounge, which is the main thing an open-plan ceiling light has to get right. The listing suggests entryways, staircases, living rooms and kitchens.
Check before you buy: The listing does not state wattage or drop length, so ask for both. It also gives a finish of iron only, so confirm the colour you will receive.
2. Gold Steel Trichromatic Chandelier: best mid-range gold statement
₦350,000 | Size: Not stated on the listing | Light: 108W LED | Finish: Brushed gold steel
A 108W LED chandelier in brushed gold steel, priced just under our chandelier median. The brushed finish reads as warm and metallic without the heavy glitter of crystal, which suits a lounge that opens onto a modern kitchen. The listing says it suits living rooms, kitchens, dining areas, hotels and reception areas.
Check before you buy: The name suggests adjustable colour, but the listing does not say what the three settings are, so ask before you buy. Size is not stated, so ask for the diameter and the drop.
3. Horizontal Crystals Chandelier: best all-rounder for a long open-plan room
₦380,000 | Size: 100 cm | Light: Bulbs included; wattage varies by bulb | Finish: Stainless steel and crystals, gold or silver
A 100 cm horizontal fitting in stainless steel and crystal, in gold or silver, with bulbs included. A horizontal form lets one fitting work over a long sofa or a dining table, and it sits at the middle of our chandelier range: the median is ₦375,000, and this one costs ₦380,000. It is the pick we would show first to someone who wants one fitting that suits most lounges.
Check before you buy: Wattage depends on the bulb you choose, so ask what is supplied if you run on an inverter. Ask for the drop and the weight before the ceiling is finished.
4. Bubble Ball Nordic 19-Heads LED Chandelier: best for a tall ceiling
₦480,000 | Size: Not stated; length is adjustable | Light: 19 integrated LEDs | Finish: Steel, gold
Nineteen integrated LED heads in a bubble cluster, finished in gold steel, with a length you can adjust. The adjustable drop is the useful part in a high open-plan room, because you can bring the cluster down to sit over the seating area instead of floating near the ceiling. The listing suits it to living rooms, dining, lounges, hotels and reception.
Check before you buy: Size and voltage are not fully stated on the listing, so ask for the diameter, the maximum drop and the total wattage.
5. Cloud Glass Chandelier, Long: best long fitting for a dining and lounge zone
₦500,000 | Size: 1,200 mm (120 cm) | Light: LED bulbs | Finish: Glass
At 1,200 mm this is the longest stated size on our list, which makes it the natural choice over a long dining table or a console that divides the lounge from the kitchen. The listing describes it as adding warmth and a luxurious ambience. A round version, the Cloud Glass Chandelier, is ₦580,000.
Check before you buy: Glass is heavy and fragile in transit, so ask for the weight, the packaging and how it is delivered. The listing does not state the wattage.
6. Karman Sibilla Chandelier: best when the light is seen from every side
₦550,000 | Size: Not stated on the listing | Light: 9 lighting hubs | Finish: Matt black
A matt black geometric fitting with nine lighting hubs that, according to the listing, emits light in all directions and changes look depending on where you view it. That matters in an open plan, where the same fitting is seen from the sofa, the kitchen island and the entrance. The listing suits it to living rooms, dining, offices, restaurants and reception areas.
Check before you buy: Size and wattage are not stated, so ask for both. A black frame is bold in a small space, so check it against your wall and floor colours.
7. Monolith Chrome Chandelier: best for a contemporary, minimal look
₦630,000 | Size: 800 mm (80 cm) | Light: LED | Finish: Brushed stainless steel
An 800 mm LED chandelier in high-quality stainless steel with a brushed finish. The listing says it is made to elevate a living room with a modern design that complements contemporary spaces. At 80 cm it suits a seating zone of around 4 m by 5 m by the sizing rule below, and it is priced higher than 86% of our chandeliers.
Check before you buy: The product is called chrome, but the description says brushed stainless steel. Ask which finish you will receive. Wattage is not stated.
8. Lumiere 3 Step Light: best for a double-height or showpiece lounge
₦750,000 | Size: Three tiers of 400, 600 and 800 mm | Light: LED; warm, white and daylight | Finish: Genuine crystal discs
A three-tier cascade of 400, 600 and 800 mm made of genuine crystal discs that soften the light, with warm, white and daylight colour temperatures listed. The stepped shape gives it presence over a large central space, and it is the most expensive of the eight at ₦750,000, which is higher than 90% of our chandeliers.
Check before you buy: Three tiers of crystal are heavy, so confirm the ceiling and the hook can carry the weight before you order. The listing does not give an overall drop.
On a tighter budget? Our range has options under ₦200,000, including the LED Long Strip Chandelier at ₦120,000, the Potter Chandelier at ₦150,000 and the Cotton Cloud Ceiling Lights at ₦180,000. Only 16 of our 156 chandeliers cost under ₦200,000, so read our guide to crystal chandeliers under ₦500,000 for what to check on cheaper pieces.
How big should it be?
Hammerton offers a simple rule: add the length and width of the room in feet, and read the total as the fixture diameter in inches. Its example is a 12 ft by 14 ft room, which suggests about 26 inches. In an open plan, we suggest applying it to the seating zone, not the whole open space, because a fitting sized for a 40 m² room would dwarf a sofa group. That adaptation is our advice, not the guide's.
In metric terms, add the length and width of the zone in metres and multiply by about 8.3 to get centimetres:
| Seating zone | Length plus width | Suggested diameter |
|---|---|---|
| 4 m by 4 m | 8 m | about 67 cm |
| 4 m by 5 m | 9 m | about 75 cm |
| 5 m by 6 m | 11 m | about 92 cm |
| 5 m by 7 m | 12 m | about 100 cm |
| 6 m by 8 m | 14 m | about 117 cm |
Worked example: a 5 m by 7 m zone gives 5 + 7 = 12 m, and 12 m is 39.4 ft, so the rule gives about 39 inches, which is about 100 cm. The rule is written for round fittings. For a long fitting, treat the figure as a rough guide to length. Our chandelier size calculator and sizing guide for Nigerian homes cover more cases.
Matching to our stated sizes: the Monolith Chrome at 80 cm suits a zone near 4 m by 5 m, the Horizontal Crystals Chandelier at 100 cm suits about 5 m by 7 m, and the Cloud Glass Chandelier, Long at 120 cm suits a zone near 6 m by 8 m.
How high should it hang?
Hammerton suggests hanging a pendant about 30 to 36 inches (76 to 91 cm) above a table or seating surface. For an open space with standard 8-foot ceilings, it puts the bottom of the fixture 72 to 84 inches (about 183 to 213 cm) from the floor. In our reading, the first figure is for fittings over a table or coffee table, and the second is for fittings people walk beneath.
Three practical points, which are our advice rather than published figures. First, keep sightlines in mind: a fitting that sits at head height between the sofa and the kitchen island will block conversation. Second, in a low room, choose a wide or linear fitting that sits close to the ceiling and avoid deep, tiered designs. Third, in a tall room, choose a fitting with an adjustable or long drop, such as the Bubble Ball Nordic 19-Heads, so it sits over the furniture and not near the roof. Always ask for the full drop before you order.
Layering light around it
A statement light is a focal point, not the only light. Mod Lighting describes three layers: ambient light from a central fitting such as a chandelier, task light from floor lamps at seated height, and accent light from wall lights or directional spots. It advises putting each layer on its own dimmer, and keeping all fittings at about 2700K to 3000K in a living room, with cool white at 4000K or above better kept for workspaces and kitchens. For large rooms, it suggests several ambient fixtures and separate lighting for each zone.
In an open plan that means the kitchen zone, the dining zone and the lounge zone each get their own control. Our floor lamps, table lamps, spotlights and ceiling lights fill the other layers. If you are planning a build, see who can design a lighting plan for a new build in Lagos and how to plan lighting when furnishing a luxury home, and compare the price of each type in spotlights vs pendant lights vs chandeliers.
What to budget for the whole room
The statement light is only part of the cost. This table shows three illustrative set-ups, using the prices of our listings. Eight spotlights is an example count, not a rule, and our spotlight range is only five listings, so its prices are indicative.
| Set-up | Statement light | Supporting spotlights | Fittings total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lean | Hangerline: ₦260,000 | 6 at ₦5,000 (7W downlight) = ₦30,000 | ₦290,000 |
| Balanced | Horizontal Crystals: ₦380,000 | 8 at ₦40,000 (median) = ₦320,000 | ₦700,000 |
| Showpiece | Lumiere 3 Step: ₦750,000 | 8 at ₦40,000 (median) = ₦320,000 | ₦1,070,000 |
Fittings only. Wiring, drivers, installation and delivery are extra, as are lamps and floor or table lamps. Our monthly Nigeria Lighting Price Index tracks the medians behind these figures.
Which to choose, by situation
| Your situation | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Budget under ₦300,000 | Hangerline | The lowest price of the eight, with an open line shape. |
| Long sofa or dining table | Horizontal Crystals or Cloud Glass Long | Horizontal forms of 100 cm and 120 cm that follow the furniture. |
| Tall or double-height ceiling | Lumiere 3 Step or Bubble Ball 19-Heads | A tiered cascade, or an adjustable length, fills vertical space. |
| Fitting seen from every side | Karman Sibilla | Listed as emitting light in all directions. |
| Modern, minimal interior | Monolith Chrome or Gold Steel Trichromatic | Brushed metal finishes with clean lines. |
| Low ceiling | A flush ceiling light or slim line fitting | A deep chandelier will be in the way. Ask for the drop of any fitting. |

Mistakes to avoid
- Sizing to the whole room. In an open plan, size to the seating zone, or the fitting will look too big over a sofa group.
- Choosing before the ceiling plan is set. Fix the hook position and the load it must carry before the ceiling closes.
- Ignoring weight. Crystal, glass and stainless steel are heavy. Ask for the weight and confirm what the ceiling holds.
- Forgetting the drop. Several listings do not state it. Ask for it and check it against your ceiling height.
- Blocking sightlines. A fitting between the kitchen and sofa should be either high or open in form.
- Mixing colour temperatures. A warm lounge and a cool kitchen in one view looks disjointed. Keep fittings within 2700K to 3000K.
- Assuming "crystal" means crystal. Ask what the material is in writing.
- Forgetting delivery and installation. Both are extra, so get them quoted. See delivery options and costs.

Questions buyers ask
What is the best statement light for an open-plan living room?
There is no single best one, because it depends on ceiling height, the size of your seating zone and your budget. From our range, the Horizontal Crystals Chandelier (100 cm, ₦380,000) is our all-rounder for a long open-plan room, the Hangerline Chandelier (₦260,000) is the lighter-budget choice that keeps sightlines clear, and the Lumiere 3 Step Light (₦750,000) is the showpiece for a tall space. These are our editorial picks, not a sales ranking.
How big should a statement light be in an open-plan living room?
Hammerton gives a common rule: add the room's length and width in feet, and read the total as the fixture diameter in inches. In metric terms, add the length and width in metres and multiply by about 8.3 to get centimetres. We suggest applying it to the seating zone rather than the whole open space, so a 5 m by 7 m seating area suggests about 100 cm. The rule is written for round fittings, so for long fittings treat it as a rough guide to length. Our chandelier size calculator will do the arithmetic.
How high should a statement light hang in an open-plan living room?
Hammerton suggests hanging pendants about 30 to 36 inches (76 to 91 cm) above a table or seating surface, and, in an open space with standard 8-foot ceilings, keeping the bottom of the fixture 72 to 84 inches (about 183 to 213 cm) above the floor. In our reading, the second figure suits areas people walk through. Ask for the drop length of any fitting before you buy.
Should I choose a chandelier or a pendant light for an open-plan living room?
A chandelier gives the room a single focal point and suits a defined seating zone. Pendants work better in a group of three or five, or over a kitchen island, where you need light for a task. Hammerton suggests spacing clustered pendants 24 to 36 inches apart. We compare the two in chandelier vs pendant light for a Nigerian dining room.
How much does a statement light cost in Nigeria?
Across the 156 active chandeliers at LAGE Lightings on 17 October 2026, the median price was ₦375,000, the middle half sat between ₦280,000 and ₦550,000, and the range ran from ₦65,000 to ₦1,500,000. The eight lights in this guide run from ₦260,000 to ₦750,000. For a full breakdown, see our chandelier price guide and the Nigeria Lighting Price Index.
Can I put more than one statement light in an open-plan room?
Yes, if each one has its own job. Mod Lighting notes that large rooms often need more than one main light, such as two pendants, and that separate zones should have their own lighting. A common approach is one chandelier over the seating area and plainer lights over the kitchen and dining areas, so the pieces do not compete. Keep the finish or colour consistent across them.
What colour temperature is best for an open-plan living room?
Mod Lighting recommends warm white at roughly 2700K to 3000K for living rooms, and keeping every fitting in that range, with cooler 4000K or above kept for workspaces and kitchens. In an open plan the kitchen is part of the same view, so mixing a warm lounge with a cool kitchen can look disjointed. Ask what colour temperature each fitting uses before you buy.
Do I need a dimmer for a statement light?
We recommend one. Mod Lighting suggests putting each layer of light on its own dimmer so one room can serve entertaining, quiet evenings and film nights. The listing for a given fitting does not always say whether it is dimmable, so ask before you buy and tell your electrician.
Will a statement chandelier work with power cuts and an inverter?
It can, if you plan the load. Only one of the eight lights here states a total wattage (the Gold Steel Trichromatic Chandelier at 108W), so ask for the wattage of the others and add up your lighting load before you size an inverter. We cover the options in LED lights, generators and inverters in Nigeria.
Can I use a hanging statement light with a low ceiling?
Usually only a wide or linear fitting that sits close to the ceiling. In a low room, our advice is to avoid deep tiered or long-drop designs, and to use a flush ceiling light or a slim linear fitting instead. Measure the ceiling height and ask for the full drop of any chandelier before you order.
Do the prices include installation and delivery?
No. The prices are for the fitting only, using the lowest variant price on each listing. Installation, wiring, drivers and delivery are separate. See luxury lighting delivery in Nigeria. We could not find a reliable published Nigerian rate for installation labour, so we do not quote one.
