Quick answer
Per fitting, spotlights are the cheapest, pendant lights sit in the middle and chandeliers cost the most. On 17 October 2026 our live range was ₦5,000 to ₦80,000 for spotlights (median ₦40,000), ₦25,000 to ₦450,000 for pendant and drop lights (median ₦120,000) and ₦65,000 to ₦1,500,000 for chandeliers (median ₦375,000).
Per room, the picture changes. A 20 m² lounge may need 10 to 13 spotlights by one common rule, which at our median spotlight price costs as much as or more than one median chandelier. Choose spotlights for even everyday light, a pendant to light one spot such as a dining table or kitchen island, and a chandelier when you want a statement piece and have the ceiling height for it.

How we wrote this guide
LAGE Lightings (also known as Lights Architect) sells all three types of fitting, so we have an interest in this topic and you should know it. Every price below comes from our own active Shopify listings as at 17 October 2026, using the lowest variant price on each product and excluding drafts. The wider method is in our Nigeria Lighting Price Index. Rules of thumb about height, spacing and spotlight counts come from the design guides we link beside each one. We have no verified Nigerian figure for installation labour or for competitors' prices, so we do not quote either.
Two things affect how you read the numbers. Our spotlight range is small (five active listings), so its statistics are indicative only. And the pendant and chandelier ranges overlap, because a few products in the pendant collection are named chandeliers and the other way round. We count each product once, in the collection it is filed under.
What each costs: price comparison
This table shows what you pay for one fitting. The 25th and 75th percentiles mark the middle half of the range, which is a better guide to a normal budget than the cheapest or most expensive piece.
| Type | Listings | Lowest | 25th percentile | Median | 75th percentile | Highest |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spotlights | 5 | ₦5,000 | ₦35,000 | ₦40,000 | ₦65,000 | ₦80,000 |
| Pendant and drop lights | 58 | ₦25,000 | ₦85,000 | ₦120,000 | ₦143,750 | ₦450,000 |
| Chandeliers | 156 | ₦65,000 | ₦280,000 | ₦375,000 | ₦550,000 | ₦1,500,000 |
Source: LAGE Lightings active listings, 17 October 2026. Spotlight percentiles are based on only five products. Our monthly Nigeria Lighting Price Index may show slightly different chandelier counts if it was last updated before products were added.
In plain terms, a median chandelier costs about three times a median pendant, and a median pendant costs about three times a median spotlight. Examples at each level from our range: the Cupcake Droplight at ₦25,000 and Saturn Pendant Light at ₦65,000 at the low end of pendants, the Oak Ginger Droplight at ₦120,000 in the middle, and the Tenon Glass Light at ₦450,000 at the top. In chandeliers, the Amber Chandelier at ₦65,000, the Crisscross Chandelier at ₦170,000, the Citrus Crystal Chandelier at ₦350,000, the Rock Marble Chandelier at ₦800,000 and the Silver Universe Chandelier at ₦1,500,000.
How many options at each budget
Another way to read the market is to count what is available in each price band. If your budget is under ₦200,000, the pendant range is where most of your choice sits.
| Budget per fitting | Pendant and drop lights | Chandeliers |
|---|---|---|
| Under ₦100,000 | 22 | 1 |
| ₦100,000 to ₦199,999 | 31 | 15 |
| ₦200,000 to ₦299,999 | 4 | 36 |
| ₦300,000 to ₦499,999 | 1 | 61 |
| ₦500,000 and above | 0 | 43 |
| Total | 58 | 156 |
Of our 58 pendants, 53 cost under ₦200,000. Of our 156 chandeliers, only 16 do, and 104 cost ₦300,000 or more. If you want a chandelier under ₦200,000, see our crystal chandeliers under ₦500,000 guide for what to check on cheaper pieces.
What it costs to light a whole room
A price per fitting does not tell you what a room costs, because the three types are bought in different quantities. As a worked example, take a 20 m² lounge. One published guide suggests one downlight for every 1.5 to 2 square metres of ceiling area, which gives 10 to 13 spotlights (ArchiPro). A chandelier or a single large pendant usually replaces that count with one fitting, though it lights the room differently.
| Option for a 20 m² lounge | Fittings | Unit price used | Fittings cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spotlights, entry level | 10 to 13 | ₦5,000 (7W downlight) | ₦50,000 to ₦65,000 |
| Spotlights, median | 10 to 13 | ₦40,000 | ₦400,000 to ₦520,000 |
| One median pendant | 1 | ₦120,000 | ₦120,000 |
| One median chandelier | 1 | ₦375,000 | ₦375,000 |
Fittings only. Wiring, drivers, installation and delivery are extra. Rules of thumb vary: other guides suggest fewer downlights in a living room when accent lights are added, so ask for a layout before you buy a full set.
Three things stand out. Entry-level downlights are by far the cheapest way to light a room evenly. Mid-range designer spotlights can cost as much as a chandelier once you multiply by the count. And a single pendant or chandelier can only light a room evenly if the room is small or the fitting is large, which is why many homes pair one with a few spotlights.
Putting it together, three illustrative combinations for a living and dining space, using the same unit prices:
| Combination | What it includes | Fittings cost |
|---|---|---|
| Lean | 10 entry-level spotlights (₦5,000 each) and one median pendant over the dining table (₦120,000) | ₦170,000 |
| Balanced | 10 median spotlights (₦40,000 each) and one median pendant (₦120,000) | ₦520,000 |
| Statement | 10 median spotlights (₦40,000 each) and one median chandelier (₦375,000) | ₦775,000 |
What pushes the price up or down
Within each type, the same few factors move the price. Knowing them lets you compare two fittings that look alike on a screen.
- Material. Real crystal, glass, marble and solid metal cost more than acrylic, resin or painted alloy. Crystal and glass can look alike in photos, and Hunker explains how to tell them apart. Ask which material your fitting actually uses.
- Size and number of lamps. Diameter, drop length and the number of bulbs drive the price. Compare per-light cost rather than headline price.
- Finish and detailing. Plated gold, chrome and black finishes, hand-cut crystals and rattan or bamboo weaving all change the cost.
- Design pedigree. Pieces that follow well-known Nordic or Italian designs are priced as design pieces, whether or not they come from the original house. Ask whether a piece is an original or an inspired design.
- Light source and driver. Integrated LED, dimmable drivers and quality transformers cost more up front. Ask what driver a fitting uses and what the warranty covers.
- Brand and warranty. A written warranty and a named brand cost more than an unbranded import. Ask what is covered and who handles claims.

Which to choose, room by room
| Room or situation | Best first choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Living room | Spotlights for general light, plus a chandelier or large pendant as the centrepiece | Spotlights give even light for daily use, while the centrepiece gives the room character. |
| Dining room | Chandelier or one to three pendants over the table | Light is concentrated on the table. See chandelier vs pendant for a Nigerian dining room. |
| Kitchen | Spotlights for work areas, pendants over an island or breakfast bar | Task lighting needs even, shadow-free light. Pendants add a focal point. |
| Bedroom | Spotlights on a dimmer or a soft pendant, with bedside pendants or lamps | Dimmable, low-glare light suits rest. See our table lamps for bedside options. |
| Entrance foyer or double-height space | Chandelier | Tall space can carry a long drop, and the fitting is the first thing guests see. |
| Corridor or staircase | Spotlights or short pendants | Even light with nothing hanging into the walkway. |
| Low ceiling | Spotlights or flush ceiling lights | There is no room for a long hanging fitting without it being in the way. |
| Restaurant or commercial space | Spotlights for coverage, pendants over tables | See ceiling lights for a 50-seat restaurant in Lagos. |
Height, size and spacing rules
Placement matters as much as price, because a good fitting hung wrongly looks wrong. These are widely published rules of thumb, so adjust them to your room.
- Over a dining table: hang the bottom of a chandelier or pendant 30 to 36 inches (about 76 to 91 cm) above the tabletop. Use the lower end for standard ceilings and go higher for tall ceilings.
- Fixture width: the diameter should be roughly half the width of the table (Arched Manor). Use our chandelier size calculator or the sizing guide for Nigerian homes.
- Spotlight spacing: one downlight per 1.5 to 2 square metres of ceiling, spaced evenly, and at least half a metre from walls (ArchiPro).
- Clear headroom: in walkways and above stairs, keep any hanging fitting well above head height. This is our practical advice rather than a published figure.
Power cuts and running cost
Nigerian homes switch between grid, generator and inverter, so wattage matters. According to Sweetcrude, Nigeria generates about 4,000 to 5,000 MW against roughly 13,000 MW of installed capacity, which is why many buyers size lighting to an inverter or solar system.
Three of our five spotlight listings state their wattage, at 7W, 10W and 12W each. Chandeliers and pendants vary with bulb count and lamp type, so ask for both before you buy. Low-wattage LED lamps are the easiest way to keep a lit room on an inverter, and we compare options in LED vs traditional bulbs during power cuts and LED lights, generators and inverters. We have not found a published Nigerian cost per hour that we trust, so we do not quote one.
Mixing all three
You do not have to pick one. Designers usually layer light: spotlights for general light, pendants where you need focused light, and a chandelier where you want one piece to anchor the room. Put each layer on its own switch or dimmer. If you are still planning a build, see who can design a lighting plan for a new build in Lagos and how to plan lighting when furnishing a luxury home.
Mistakes to avoid
- Comparing price per fitting, not per room. Ten cheap spotlights and one chandelier are different budgets.
- Buying before the ceiling plan is fixed. Spotlight positions and the load a chandelier hook must carry should be set before the ceiling closes.
- Ignoring weight. Large crystal and marble fittings are heavy. Ask for the weight and confirm what the ceiling can hold.
- Skipping warm or cool checks. Colour temperature changes how a room feels. A warm white suits living and dining rooms, and a cooler white suits work areas.
- Assuming "crystal" means crystal. Ask what the material is in writing.
- Forgetting delivery and installation. Both are extra, so get them quoted. See delivery options and costs.

Questions buyers ask
Which is cheapest in Nigeria: spotlights, pendant lights or chandeliers?
Per fitting, spotlights are cheapest. Our spotlights range runs from ₦5,000 to ₦80,000, our pendant and drop lights from ₦25,000 to ₦450,000, and our chandeliers from ₦65,000 to ₦1,500,000 (live listings, 17 October 2026). Per room the gap narrows, because a room needs many spotlights but usually one chandelier or one to three pendants.
How much does a chandelier cost in Nigeria?
Across the 156 active chandelier listings at LAGE Lightings on 17 October 2026, the median price was ₦375,000, the middle half sat between ₦280,000 and ₦550,000, and the range ran from ₦65,000 to ₦1,500,000. For a fuller breakdown by material and size, see our chandelier price guide.
How much does a pendant light cost in Nigeria?
Across 58 active pendant and drop light listings, the median was ₦120,000. The middle half sat between ₦85,000 and about ₦144,000, and the range ran from ₦25,000 to ₦450,000. More than nine in ten of our pendants (53 of 58) cost under ₦200,000.
How much do spotlights cost in Nigeria?
Our five active spotlight listings range from ₦5,000 (a 7W downlight) to ₦80,000 (an adjustable hollow spotlight), with a median of ₦40,000. Five listings is a small sample, so treat it as indicative, and remember that you buy several per room.
How many spotlights does a living room need?
One published rule of thumb is one downlight for every 1.5 to 2 square metres of ceiling, which gives 10 to 13 for a 20 m² lounge. Other guides suggest fewer for living rooms when accent lights are added, so treat the number as a starting point and ask for a lighting layout. See ArchiPro for the rule we used.
How high should a pendant light or chandelier hang over a dining table?
Most design guides put the bottom of the fixture 30 to 36 inches (about 76 to 91 cm) above the tabletop, towards the lower end for standard ceilings and higher for tall ceilings. A common rule is that the fixture's diameter should be roughly half the width of the table (Arched Manor). Our sizing guide and chandelier size calculator do the maths for your room.
Can I use a chandelier in a room with a low ceiling?
Usually not a hanging one. A chandelier needs room to hang clear of heads and, over a table, about 30 to 36 inches above the surface. In a low room, spotlights or a short pendant are the safer choice, or choose a flush-mount fitting from our ceiling lights.
Which uses less power, a spotlight, a pendant or a chandelier?
Power depends on the lamps, not the fitting type. Three of our five spotlight listings state their wattage (7W, 10W and 12W), so ten spotlights of that kind draw roughly 70W to 120W in total, while a chandelier's draw depends on how many bulbs it holds and their wattage. Ask for the bulb count and watts before you buy, particularly if you run on an inverter. We cover this in LED lights, generators and inverters in Nigeria.
Can I combine spotlights, pendants and a chandelier in the same home?
Yes, and most well-lit homes do. Spotlights give even general light, pendants light a specific spot such as a dining table, kitchen island or bedside, and a chandelier acts as the statement piece in a foyer, living room or double-height space. Put each on its own switch or dimmer so you can set the mood.
Do the prices include installation and delivery?
No. The prices quoted here are for the fitting itself. Installation, wiring, drivers, transformers and delivery are separate. See luxury lighting delivery in Nigeria for how delivery is handled, and ask for installation to be quoted separately. We could not find a reliable published Nigerian rate for installation labour, so we do not quote one.
